Jerry Loomer, Chairman of the Culture and Life committee describes the orga- nization as a charitable, frater- nal, catholic, men's organization. Knights of Columbus members bring charitable opportunities to the larger group, and they deploy resources to help assist in any way they can. Council 10034 of the Knights of Columbus is based in Lady Lake, but assists a wide range of chari- ties across The Villages in Florida. Through financial support and manpower, the Knights of Colum- bus contribute to various events and drives that help different charities. An event might include tootsie roll drives, where tootsie rolls are handed out in exchange for donations to be split between two organizations, this past year this event raised $2,000 each for The ARC and the Special Olympics. In 2017 alone, the Knights of Co- lumbus earmarked approximate- ly $30,000 in value for charities, donation efforts ranging from col- lecting coats for children, clothing and food donations and dispers- ing those donations to people in need or purchasing wheelchairs for veterans in need. In addition to generating support and raising various funds for char- ities, The Knights of Columbus also works closing with St. Timo- thy's Catholic Parish and assists when there is a need to build a service program. The Knights of Columbus' sense of community giving extends to their members in times of need as well, either by supporting each other through an illness or shar- ing condolences for the loss of a loved one, the organization steps in. The comraderies of the orga- nization are also not lost, as the group takes trips together across Florida including to the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, a baseball game or to a casino. Their annual golf tournament to raise money for multiple charities has several sponsorship and raffle opportunities available. The next one will be on March 10, 2018 at Orange Blossom Country Club.
