Consisting of members born between roughly 1946 and 1964, the Baby Boomers is not only a defining generation, but one of the largest clubs in the Villages of Florida at nearly 1,000 members. The Founders of the Club thought it was a great idea to bring together a group of people who have a lot of things in common – they're a baby boomer, and they have a mission: to promote goodwill among its members by hosting social events to bring other baby boomers together. When Connie Lumpkin moved to The Villages in 2009, it was the club she joined. And now, eight years later, she's the president. It's a great way to be involved with other people your age, to build camaraderie, talk about different things you've done and branch out with others that all have something in common, Connie says. And if you're a baby boomer in The Villages and not a member – you're missing out! The club holds month- ly events ranging from ice cream socials, band per- formances and themed parties – making meetings quite an event with around 450 people in attendance at each! They've had professional performances such as Rocky and the Rollers and Bill Lisby to perform ventriloquism; and on some special occasions, they will take trips outside The Villages – most recently to the Bahamas! But the Club doesn't just reminisce about their fa- vorite things from yesteryear – they do quite a bit to support charities. In November, they run their own campaign to benefit Toys for Tots, which is run by the Marine Corps League, and are typically able to fill up to six, six-foot long tables and then some with toys for children. They participate in local charity events such as a Poker Run that The Villages holds each summer, and currently the Baby Boomers are work- ing on raising money to benefit victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Aside from all the social activities, Connie says the biggest benefit of being a member are the connec- tions you make and the support group you develop with other baby boomers in the same area. If you're looking to join, unfortunately the Club is so popular, there's a waiting list for membership! Baby Boomers will be open for new member registration starting November 15th!
