This is the Mission Statement for the Aqua Rhythms Synchronized Swim Team coached by Stacie Rissmann-Joyce. The Aqua Rhythms was organized in 1989 and was one of the first clubs formed at The Villages. This enthusiastic and talented group of women have been entertain- ing their community for almost 30 years. Currently, there are 14 members and the team is active- ly recruiting. Clinic instruction for members is now underway so it's a perfect time for new members to join, receive instruction and prac- tice their synchro skills! The only requirement is basic knowledge of the crawlstroke, backstroke, and breaststroke is a plus. The Aqua Rhythms practice all year for their annual performance each November at the La Hacien- da Sports Pool & Recreation Cen- ter. The team meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 – 2:50 p.m., weather permitting. During the winter months, the team develops a theme for the November perfor- mance, selecting music and cho- reographing seven to ten two-min- ute routines relative to the theme, with the opening routine honoring our military. The performance is free, but donations are graciously accepted to benefit local charities personal to the team members and their families (breast cancer, autism and other worthy causes). The Aqua Rhythms not only share a common fondness for synchro- nized swimming, but get together for a weekly round of golf, movie outings or dinner. Yankee Trails or- ganized a cruise for the members and they drew quite a crowd while practicing their routines in one of the ship's pools. Ellen Lyons, Aqua Rhythms Public Relations Special- ist, describes "The best part about being an Aqua Rhythm is the ca- maraderie, friendship and a solid support system during good and bad times." Coach Rissman-Joyce hopes that that the team will become more recognized within The Villages while participating in many other community events. The next per- formance of the Aqua Rhythms is November 12, 2020, so mark your calendars!
