To date, the club has nearly 300 members across The Villages, all avid Yankee fans and baseball en- thusiasts. The club members organize their own trips to ball games and even invite speakers to their meetings to talk about their experiences as a profes- sional baseball player. Over the years, the New York Yan- kees Club has invited Chris Chambless, Mickey Rivers, Sam McDowell, and even Mar- guerite "Dolly" Pearson — who was a member of the Women's Baseball League during World War II — to speak with the group. These speakers often talk about their career trajec- tory and their life as a profes- sional baseball player. Besides hosting speakers, the club organizes trips to ball games across the state. The club takes pride in their abil- ity to organize these trips en- tirely on their own for their members. In recent years, the club has attended pre-season Yankees games, Tampa Tar- pons ball games, and Red Sox games. Another highlight for club members is an annual dona- tion to sponsor a charity, the Sozo Kids, which is a non-profit organization helping to com- bat rural poverty in the Ocala National Forest. The club sends their donation every October so the families can have finan- cial support during the holiday season. Looking ahead to 2020, the club is negotiating speakers to ap- pear during their spring meet- ings. In April, the club will be attending the Modern League Game which include a popular buffet-style meal accommoda- tion. Also, club members are planning to attend two spring training games. If interested in joining the club, the members meet on the fourth Friday of every month, excluding December, at the Eisenhower Recreation Cen- ter.
